WIDA Focus Bulletin

Resources for Bilingual Teachers

The Language Domain Spreadsheet is designed to be used as you group kids based on their language needs.

Use these Language Allocation Plans for your grade level to know how much English and Native Language you should be teaching.

Grades 1-2

This District Language Allocation Plan will help answer any questions you may have about how much English and Spanish is being taught in each grade. This is a great reference tool to give you a quick picture of the Bilingual Program. 

These are some ideas on how to deliver an effective sheltered English lesson using the preview, view, and review model.

Do you have questions on when and how to mainstream your ELLs? Try the Mainstreaming Guidelines Document  to more fully understand how the process works. 

Check out the Exit and Mainstreaming Flowchart  to know when a student is ready to move into a general education classroom.

If a child is struggling academically in both their native language and English, check out our  Language of Instruction Document to help in deciding what language to use in instruction.

It is hard to know when to start teaching a child English. Our district policy is spelled out in this Early English Literacy Criteria  .

Here is a Sample Literacy Block Outline designed for a third grade classroom but helpful in designing effective literacy instruction.

Here are some EXCELLENT questions to ask a child as they are learning the basics. Questions are for Reading  and Writing  and are in Spanish. This is just a piece of a really great resource available for check-out at the LRC. The flip chart is entitled Prompting Guide by Fountas and Pinnell and is available in English and Spanish.
