Dr. Tim Burns grew up in Bensenville, Illinois and attended Fenton High School. He attended Eastern Illinois University and graduated in 1999 with a double bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences and Secondary Education. Dr. Burns then discovered that he enjoyed working with individual students and earned a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling and Human Services in 2002 from Roosevelt University to become a guidance counselor. He was motivated by the work of former Stevenson High School Superintendent Rick DuFour and earned his Master of Arts Degree in Educational Administration in 2007 from Northern Illinois University, and then continued to earn an Educational Doctorate from Roosevelt University in 2014 in the field of Educational Leadership and Organizational Change. He is a lifelong learner and is exploring the possibility of returning to school to pursue an MBA with an emphasis in Human Resource Management via DeVry University.

Dr. Burns has been an active member of the Elk Grove Village Community and has recently completed a six year term as a Trustee on the Elk Grove Village Library. Prior to this he served as the Secretary of the Parcel C Division of the Elk Grove Estates Homeowners Association. Dr. Burns is active with St. Julienne Eymard Catholic Church and is a member of the Knights of Columbus. He and his wife Jennifer have also been active with the Byrd Elementary School P.T.O. and have recently completed a term as joint treasurers.

Dr. Burns and his wife Jennifer, a District 59 and Elk Grove High School graduate, are the proud parents of Meghan and Colin, who are both fourth graders at Byrd Elementary School, and Emma, who is a student in the early childhood program at the Early Learning Center.
