SPECIAL EDUCATION PROCEDURES FOR STUDENTS ATTENDING PRIVATE, PAROCHIAL, AND HOMESCHOOLS
Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), CCSD59 is responsible for Child Find – seeking out and evaluating all students with disabilities who attend school within the District’s geographical boundaries. This includes students who are homeschooled and reside within the District. There are specific requirements for this evaluation, including that it be completed according to federal and state guidelines and district criteria. In order to be eligible for special education services, a student must be evaluated by the District.
SERVICE PLAN
Each spring, we hold a “Timely and Meaningful Consultation Meeting” with the staff from private, parochial, and homeschools. We work together to determine how students with disabilities who attend private, parochial, and homeschools will participate in special education services. CCSD59 typically provides speech therapy to eligible students attending private or parochial schools. Students who attend these schools receive service plans if they are eligible for special education services. Services are provided in D59 schools, and parents are responsible for transportation to and from those services.
Private, parochial, and homeschooled students are served through federal proportionate share dollars. Therefore, if funds have been used for the year, students may need to wait until the following school year to receive services.
If your child is attending a private/parochial school within the CCSD59 boundaries and you suspect that he or she has a disability and may need special education services through a service plan, please contact the building principal of your child’s school to request an evaluation. If your child is homeschooled, please contact the Educational Services Department at (847) 593-4335.
PROCEDIMIENTOS DE EDUCACIÓN ESPECIAL PARA ESTUDIANTES QUE ASISTEN A ESCUELAS PRIVADAS, PARROQUIALES Y EN EL HOGAR
Según la Ley de Educación para Personas con Discapacidades (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act)(IDEA, por sus siglas en inglés), el CCSD59 es responsable de Child Find: buscar y evaluar a todos los estudiantes con discapacidades que asisten a la escuela dentro de los límites geográficos del distrito. Esto incluye a los estudiantes que reciben educación en el hogar y que residen dentro del distrito. Hay requisitos específicos para esta evaluación, incluido que se complete de acuerdo con las pautas federales y estatales y los criterios del distrito. Para ser elegible para los servicios de educación especial, un estudiante debe ser evaluado por el distrito.
PLAN DE SERVICIO
Cada primavera, llevamos a cabo una “Reunión de consulta oportuna y significativa” con el personal de las escuelas privadas, parroquiales y en el hogar. Trabajamos juntos para determinar cómo los estudiantes con discapacidades que asisten a escuelas privadas, parroquiales y en el hogar participarán en los servicios de educación especial. El CCSD59 generalmente brinda terapia del habla a los estudiantes elegibles que asisten a escuelas privadas o parroquiales. Los estudiantes que asisten a estas escuelas reciben planes de servicio si son elegibles para los servicios de educación especial. Los servicios se brindan en las escuelas D59 y los padres son responsables del transporte hacia y desde esos servicios.
Los estudiantes privados, parroquiales y educados en el hogar reciben servicios a través de acciones federales proporcionales. Por lo tanto, si los fondos se han utilizado para el año, es posible que los estudiantes deban esperar hasta el siguiente año escolar para recibir los servicios.
Si su hijo asiste a una escuela privada/parroquial dentro de los límites del CCSD59 y sospecha que tiene una discapacidad y puede necesitar servicios de educación especial a través de un plan de servicio, por favor comuníquese con el director de la escuela de su hijo para solicitar una evaluación.
