Educational Philosophy & Objectives

The Board of Education believes that the mission of the District is quality student learning.

Community Consolidated School District 59 strives for high student achievement, believing that all students are unique individuals with their own needs and attitudes.  To improve high student achievement and life-long learning, the Board will embrace continuous improvement in a safe and nurturing environment that promotes "keeping learning first."
The Board of Education believes that:
  • All students can learn and be successful
  • Students must actively participate in their own learning
  • Reading and writing skills are critical to a child's success
  • Children learn through a variety of instructional methods
  • When parents are actively supportive and involved in their child's education and school, the child is more likely to succeed
  • It is the duty and responsibility of the Board of Education in partnership with stakeholders to be fiscally responsible in providing the resources to ensure that all students have the opportunity to excel in their education
  • Together we will enable children to become lifelong learners
  • Schools must maintain a well-organized, safe and disciplined environment for teaching and learning
  • Modeling trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship will assist students to become responsible, respectful citizens, who value education and recognize and celebrate diversity
  • A well-defined and effective curriculum will provide meaningful teaching and learning opportunities to continually improve learner outcomes aligned with learner standards
  • Staff development is best accomplished through an environment of cooperation, trust, and continuous improvement
  • Supportive administrative services enable staff to act responsibly, intelligently, and effectively
  • Educational programs need to be research-based, results-oriented, aligned, balanced, reflective of community values, and supportive of the district mission
Core values, which identify the ideals and practices that are demonstrated in district actions will drive the conduct of our organization.  To this end, the Board of Education holds to the following core values:
  • High academic achievement, directed at lifelong learning, resting on a foundation of basic skills and knowledge
  • Partnerships among all stakeholders
  • Research-driven decision-making and continuous improvement
  • Development of the whole child
  • A comprehensive curriculum supported by technology
  • Appreciation of diversity
To succeed in its mission, the Board of Education asks the staff, parents, students, and community to support its efforts:
  • To provide children with the opportunity to develop their communication tools for learning (reading, writing, listening, and speaking)
  • To have students demonstrate proficiency in basic academic skills especially as applied to daily life
  • To recognize that all children can learn and will have equal opportunity and encouragement to make full use of their individual talents
  • To develop the ability to think and solve problems critically, creatively, and constructively
  • To teach students the skills for acquiring and processing information using traditional methods and modern technology
  • To preserve and expand the child's intellectual curiosity
  • To foster an appreciation of nature's beauty and an interest in preserving our environment
  • To make students aware of the values and ideals of our American traditions including the rights, responsibilities, and privileges of good citizenship
  • To develop an appreciation and respect for the people and traditions of different cultures
  • To foster sound mental health and a pride in work leading to a sense of individual self-worth
  • To guide students to adopt constructive, cooperative attitudes in social relationships
  • To encourage students to develop physical fitness through proper diet, exercise, leisure activities, and health habits
The District's success in accomplishing its mission will be determined by two crucial factors:
  1. The ability of the District to attract and retain talented, dedicated, and caring staff members committed to their own continued professional development, as well as to the development of academically prepared, upstanding individuals; and
  2. The active involvement of parents in the educational progress of their children and parental encouragement in developing strong ethics (honesty, fairness, responsibility, and kindness).
Realizing that we live in a complex, rapidly changing society, the District will continually evaluate both its achievements and its goals, seeking constant improvement in all areas.
