  1. Holding opening and closing circles in every elementary learning environment
  2. Using proactive meaningful assessment to guide social emotional skill instruction
  3. Developing effective, strengths-based behavior interventions and support

 

A Framework for Preparing Students to

be Successful for Life

 

SEL Applied Outcomes/Progressions
  • Advocate for safe environments for self and others
  • Understand and effectively respond to the emotions of self and others
  • Engage in service to others and demonstrate empathy
  • Demonstrate responsible decision making that considers the needs of others
  • Build and maintain safe and healthy relationships  
  • Apply personal management skills necessary for progress toward goals
  • Consider social norms when communicating

 

Indicators of Systemic SEL Practice       

  • Expected behavior is modeled by all district staff at all times.
  • Families understand and are engaged in their child’s social & emotional development.
  • Pro-social behavior is frequently positively reinforced by all adults.
  • Social emotional learning is present in all levels of each school’s multi-tiered system of support.
  • All instruction occurs within a culturally and linguistically responsive learning environment.
  • Replacement social or emotional skills are taught following all major negative behavior.
  • All instruction occurs after physiological needs are met.
