Everything is Awesome Grants Awarded to Students
Students at Ridge Family Center for Learning were awarded three grants totaling $1,500 by PriceWaterhouseCoopers to purchase three Story Starter Lego sets and Lego Story Builder software. The grants, written and proposed by fourth and fifth grade teacher Beth Soreng, focus on 21st century learning. Specifically, digital storytelling. Using the Lego software, students were able to plan and develop stories that integrated technology and digital learning to tell narrative stories.
School board member Janice Krinsky was present for a lesson and commented on “how engaged the children were in writing stories, building vignettes to illustrate their stories, and presenting their ideas.”
“Watching my students grow as storytellers has been truly amazing,” said Beth Soreng. “Students who are typically very shy in class have created amazing stories that they have shared with their classmates and other staff members.”
