Students “Bear Down” on Bullying at Clearmont
Elementary schools at CCSD59 participate in PBIS an initiative that supports appropriate student behaviors and helps create a positive school environment. On September 29, 2014, students and staff at Clearmont Elementary enthusiastically welcomed Staley Da Bear from the Chicago Bears. Staley performed at the school’s PBIS assembly called “Bear Down on Bullying.”
Staley spoke about bullying and offered students the language and supports to be able to self advocate. Through interactive and fun demonstrations, students role played different scenarios with Staley.
The school was awarded a banner signed by the Chicago Bears players to demonstrate their commitment to the anti-bullying campaign. Bullying isn’t tolerated within the Bears organization, and they are committed to helping prevent it at schools. The banner is a reminder of that.
Rachel Solomon, principal at Clearmont said, “We at Clearmont School are committed to providing a community whereby students feel comfortable speaking up and reaching out to an adult to advocate for themselves or peers. Our Clearmont community will continue to S.O.A.R. to support, and reinforce the emphasis on the whole child.”
