Welcome to the 2018 - 19 School Year
The memories from your first day of school may carry a lot of different emotions.
Perhaps you were completely excited about joining your older brothers and sisters at school. There may have been a magical feeling when you put on your first school outfit or uniform or carried in a backpack full of new supplies. You may have been scared about being with new people that you’d never met before. You may have been worried that you will miss your family while away from them during the day.
In recent years, CCSD59 has worked to increase the opportunities for families to be involved in the first day of school.
“Whenever possible, we want to bring families, students, and staff together to kickoff learning,” said Dr. Katie Ahsell, executive director of student growth and equity. “Building relationships and trust is a goal CCSD59 staff have been and will be working toward with family events, social-emotional learning, and many other purposefully designed activities in the month of August. When those relationships continue throughout the year, everyone benefits.”
Some of the many events that our schools are participating in this week include family activity sessions for parents and children, parent meet-and-greets with coffee and refreshments, parent and student assemblies, back to school picnics, ice cream socials, introductions of new staff, open locker night, and many more. These activities are designed so that parents, guardians, and children feel comfortable and eager to begin a new school year with their fellow students, teachers, and other CCSD59 staff.
As the saying goes: we’ve only just begun. Welcome to the 2018-19 school year, and we look forward to learning with you.
