Welcome to the Admiral Byrd School website. We hope it will provide you with much information about our school. Admiral Byrd School is located in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. We are a school of approximately 400 students in grades kindergarten through fifth. Byrd School houses both Spanish and English Title I programs and one of the district's bilingual programs for children. These programs provide instruction in both Spanish and English for children whose first language is Spanish. Our goal is to have children become successful in a full English-speaking class when they are academically ready.
Byrd School staff, students and parents are very proud of the excellent educational opportunities that are provided. Children have many wonderful learning experiences with each new day. Language Arts instruction is emphasized throughout the student's day, with an ongoing emphasis on reading and writing. We are also a school that has many computers for children's use. In classrooms and in our Library Resource Center students have the opportunity to use Macintosh computers. Students learn how to use the Internet, Microsoft Office, Hyper Studio, Kid Pix, and many other programs. Teachers are able to enhance and enrich the students' learning experiences through the use of many different technologies.
During the school year we also provide extracurricular clubs for children in grades two through five. These clubs are organized by staff and provide many additional enriching learning experiences for our students.
Each child is unique and the Byrd staff strives to provide what is best for all children. The Byrd staff works very hard to create a caring, stimulating and supportive environment for the students. We encourage parental involvement and know that it means so much to the children. Working together we can create a positive and rewarding educational experience for all the children at Byrd.
Parents at Byrd School are actively involved through their participation in our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). This organization supports our school in many ways. We welcome all of our parents and staff to this organization and appreciate the ways in which they enrich our school. Through the efforts and time of many volunteers we are able to provide excellent cultural arts programs for our children, take classes of children on special field trips, give each student a birthday book in celebration of their birthday and much more.
