It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Forest View Educational Community. We are very proud of our school and all that it has to offer the students, staff and parents. We are pleased that you have found our website and are interested in learning more about us.
Forest View is located in Mount Prospect, Illinois, a northwest suburban area of Chicago. We are one of 14 schools in Community Consolidated School District 59. We have approximately 420 students from preschool to fifth grade. Forest View first opened its doors in 1962 and during the past 45 years has undergone several building renovations. The most recent was in 1996, which provided us with the state of the art facility that we have today.
Forest View has a mission of Learning for Life. We believe that all children need to develop skills to be productive members of the community and develop their emotional, intellectual and social being. Each year we develop a strategic plan that identifies goals for the staff and students. Below are the goals for the 2009-2010 school year.
Goal #1 - By the end of 1st grade and continuing through subsequent grades all students will meet established Oral Reading Fluency benchmarks and /or meet Illinois Learning Standards in Reading.
Goal #2 - By the end of 1st grade and continuing through subsequent grades all students will meet established math computation benchmarks and meet Illinois Learning Standards in math.
Forest View houses and supports a number of different programs. The LOP, Learning Opportunities Program, is made up of three classes supporting students at various grade levels; a K,1,2 class, 3rd grade class and 4,5 class. These students come from various district schools and receive intensive help instructionally through the use of an alternate curriculum. Forest View also houses an ESL program that supports students from K-5th grade. This program provides instruction in English for students with a second language. Our youngest learners attend the preschool program which supports children ages 3-5.
In addition to supporting district programs we have within our school support in reading and math, as well as a special program called TDP (Talented Development Program) for students in 3rd-5th grade. Students in the TDP program qualify based on test scores in a variety of areas.
Forest View offers a variety of clubs and extracurricular activities. These include Literacy Club (1st - 5th ), Chorus (4th, 5th), Student Senate (4th, 5th ), Intramurals (all grades) and Service Club (5th ). New this year is the Drumming Club for 2nd and 3rd graders. Each of these clubs meet at different times during the year.
The support of parents and the community is an integral aspect of the success of this school. Working together for the education of all students makes Forest View such a great school. We were recognized at the bronze level in 2004 by the Lincoln Foundation in Illinois. This organization recognizes schools based on implementation of a continuous improvement model and application of Baldrige principles. We are very proud of the success of our school.
As you can see Forest View has a great deal to offer everyone in the learning community. To find out more visit our links on our web page.
