Dear Frost Families:
Welcome to Robert Frost Elementary School, a great place to learn! We believe we are a great school for students to attend because we provide a safe, nurturing environment committed to academic excellence. Core values include: unity through diversity, inclusion and encouragement of all.
Regarding our academic program, we offer a challenging curriculum that focuses on balanced literacy, along with a math program that emphasizes computation as well as problem solving. Science, social studies, the integration of technology, fine arts and physical education complete the curricular program, one that is delivered to students through a differentiated instruction approach. Operating within a framework of continuous improvement, data analysis and response to intervention (RtI) enables faculty members to challenge students to meet and exceed expectations as students strive to become lifelong learners.
A second component of the RtI model is related to behavior. Research demonstrates that there will be more time spent on instruction in the classroom if students are taught the behavioral expectations that create a positive learning environment. With that thought in mind, Robert Frost is in its first year of implementing the “Three B’s,” a positive behavioral and interventions support program.
This research-based program is designed to help students demonstrate positive behaviors that contribute to an overall school environment that is conducive to learning. All staff members have received extensive training in the Three B’s, and students are learning about the expectations that are part of the program. We are off to a great start, and we are having fun celebrating student success at our monthly assemblies.
Students participate in our standardized testing program, thus providing them with the opportunity to demonstrate growth toward learning standards. Excellent school-wide results on State of Illinois assessments qualified Robert Frost to receive the 2006 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon from the United States Department of Education. In addition, Robert Frost has been designated by the State of Illinois as a Spotlight School in 2007 and 2008 due to excellent performance on the ISAT tests.
Students are responsible, active learners who demonstrate respect for self, others and their school. They follow the six pillars of good character and the themes of Second Step, a program designed to help students learn to practice empathy, anger management and impulse control. As we begin the 2009-2010 School Year, Robert Frost will begin the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program as another way to support a positive approach to behavior, the results of which will impact academics in a positive manner.
Parents are encouraged to play an active role in their child’s education both at home and at school. Participation in various school activities, such as, goal setting and portfolio sharing conferences, Tuesday night Open LRC, student performances and participation through the PTO impact the success of all children and offer opportunities for friendships to form.
Frost has an extremely gifted faculty. Our work is collaborative and child centered. Our curriculum is aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards, the Illinois Assessment Framework and the Focus of Study. Students learn in a variety of settings that include large group, small group and flexible resource groups. We also offer classes for gifted students.
Robert Frost Elementary School is a great place to learn!
