Celebrating the Three Pillars of Dual Language: A Beautiful Mural at John Jay Elementary
At John Jay Elementary School, the spirit of our Dual Language Program comes to life through a beautiful new mural painted by John Jay’s art teacher, Ms. Samantha Parcell. Over Winter Break, Ms. Parcell meticulously brought to life the three pillars of the program – Bilingualism and Biliteracy, Grade Level Academic Achievement, Sociocultural Competency – in vibrant colors and fun imagery, paying homage to the school’s “Star” mascot with an outer space theme. An astronaut, planets, and other celestial elements bring the mural to life, symbolizing the limitless potential of our students and the journey they embark on through language and culture.
The mural also serves as a visual representation of the values that guide our dual language students and celebrates the diversity and cultural richness that make our school community so unique. Thanks to a captivating timelapse video, we were able to capture the entire process, showcasing the transformation of the space and the dedication that went into this incredible work of art.
