Springfield & St. Louis Trip!Springfield & St. Louis Trip!
Friendship traditionally offers a class trip for 7th grade students to Springfield, Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri. This trip is typically run in the Spring, and is a culminating activity/experience for students after they have studied the expansion of the United States to Western lands, the United States and Illinois Constitutions and government structures, and the rising tensions between the North and South over the issue of slavery.
Unfortunately, this past Spring the class trip of 2020 needed to be postponed due to the Covid-19 shutdown. The trip from last Spring was tentatively rescheduled for May 1st – 2nd, 2021. The rescheduled trip will be an opportunity for not only current 8th graders (who did not get to go on their trip last Spring), but for current 7th graders as well a chance to see the sights in Springfield and St. Louis.
Obviously, the most important concern for the trip is participant health and safety. Since this trip is comprised of many different sites with various touring environments, there are several variables that need to come together to make this trip viable and to run successfully. Brightspark Travel (the trip company that sponsors and manages this trip) will continue to constantly monitor conditions at our tour sites, and stay updated with health/safety guidance from the CDC and Illinois/Missouri Departments of Public Health over the next several months. A final determination for the status of the trip scheduled for the Spring will be made at a later date, and shared with students as well as parent/guardians.
Since any scheduled trip needs to be planned out far in advance to guarantee site reservations and lock in pricing, there will be information coming out this Fall regarding the rescheduled trip this May for the 7th grade students. Please know that any information that is released is tentative, and any changes will be clearly communicated (especially information about financial commitments or “refund” information).
In the meantime, please feel free to check out some of the pictures from past trips, and the links below to the various sites that we typically visit. As the school year progresses and planning begins for next Spring’s trip, I am always available for any questions that you may have.
Hoping for a successful trip season this Spring!
Mr. Benes
