7th grade Family Consumer Sciences provides students the skills they need in life to be responsible, productive family and community members.  The course covers many topics that are vital to successful day-to-day living.

Topics Covered:

Sewing:  Students will learn the vocabulary, equipment, and basic skills needed to operate a sewing machine.  The final project will be to complete a 9-patch pillow.  All supplies are provided but students are welcome to bring in fabric if they want a more customized project.

Nutrition and Food Preparation:  Students will learn about nutrition, expanding on their knowledge from their 6th grade nutrition lessons.  We will also tie in our cooking unit that will incorporate kitchen safety, equipment, and sanitation.  Several cooking labs will occur that will provide students with basic cooking knowledge.

Child Development:  We will study the stages of development from prenatal through age 5.  Students will participate in hands-on activities that allow them to explore the ages and stages of development.
