Band and Orchestra in CCSD59
Is your student interested in learning to play an instrument? CCSD59 has many options available for all, from beginners to experienced children, from violin to trumpet. Everyone is invited and welcome to participate in the exciting experience of creating music.
Instrumental Music
Band & Orchestra is offered beginning at the fifth grade level, and students are encouraged to continue with either band or orchestra through junior high and beyond.
Students can only enroll in one ensemble. They are highly encouraged to also participate in choir in elementary school and additional extracurricular choirs/ensembles at the junior high level to continue to expand their studies and also to enjoy the excitement with their classmates.
fifth Grade
Students receive one lesson per week, during the school day. Students are in small groups with their peers for 30 minutes, learning techniques of their chosen instruments as well as how to read music. Music teachers schedule lessons in a manner that best avoids loss of vital instructional classroom time.
Junior High
The junior high students get a wide variety of opportunities to fine-tune their performance skills. Every day throughout the week, junior high students are able to participate in a dedicated band or orchestra class. Students also receive one weekly lesson in a smaller group setting in addition to their daily class time. Junior high students also get the opportunity to perform in some after-school rehearsals and during evening concerts held at the junior highs throughout the year.

MÚSICA INSTRUMENTAL

5TO GRADO

PRESECUNDARIA

These meetings provide the opportunity to rent your student’s instrument and receive information regarding lessons, rehearsals, and concerts for your student’s school.

In mid-September, the lessons for interested students begin. Please check with your teacher for more information regarding the precise start date.
In December or January, students get the opportunity to showcase their talents in their first concert with the school. Please see your school’s calendar for more details.
Instrumental Music Camp (IMC)
CCSD59 also offers a three-week summer instrumental music camp for all band and orchestra students who are interested in practicing over the summer. There is a variety of small and large group ensembles for students in Grades 5 through 7 which provide the opportunity to meet and perform with students from other schools in CCSD59. Students who attend IMC all put on a performance in a final concert at the end of the three-week session. The feedback from both students and staff who attend IMC is that the experience is new, fun, and different than the regular classes.
