Annual Review of the Board Governance Cycle – 4.01

Agenda Formatting – 4.02
(Communications & Community Relations)
The board continued discussions on refining the board agenda by showing alignment to strategic goals or focus areas for individual agenda items. 

Board President Directions for Public Comment – 4.03
(Communications & Community Relations)
The board reviewed draft language intended to increase clarity and consistency with the process and guidelines for public comment at board meetings. The board will continue to have discussions on the public comment direction statement at a future meeting.

Agenda Item 7.0

Approval of 2019-20 District Focus Areas – 7.01
(Student Growth – Educating the Whole Child Academically, Physically, and Emotionally)
Throughout the 2018-19 school year, members of the district’s leadership teams have reviewed, reflected, and gathered feedback from stakeholder groups on areas of focus for the 2019-20 school year. The board provided additional feedback to assist in the development and finalization of the District Focus Areas for the 2019-20 school year as outlined in the 6.10.19 Focus Area Presentation and include:

Priority Focus:

  • Math & Language Acquisition Instructional Practice & Curriculum Enhancements
  • Intervention & Assessment System & Structure Enhancements

Refinement Focus: 

  • Literacy, Social-Emotional Learning, Innovative Learning, Educational Services Instructional Practice & Curriculum Refinements
  • MTSS, Human Resources, & Educational Services System & Structure Refinements
  • Communication, Technology, & Safety Operational System & Structure Refinements

Emerging Focus:

  • Science & Social Science Instructional Practice & Curriculum Development

The board approved these district areas of focus for the 2019-20 school year.

Approval of Intergovernmental Agreement Between the North Cook Intermediate Service Center and Community Consolidated School District 59 – 7.02
(Student Growth – Educating the Whole Child Academically, Physically, and Emotionally)
The North Cook Intermediate Service Center provides a regional program serving students from grades 6-12. CCSD59 has made consistent use of The North Cook Young Adult Academy (NCYAA) during the past several years as an alternate placement site for students.

The board approved the intergovernmental agreement between North Cook Intermediate Service Center and CCSD59.

Approval of Administrative & Non-Negotiated Compensation For Fiscal Year 2019-20 – 7.03
(Long-term Financial Stability and Fiscal Integrity)
The board authorized a compensation pool for the 2019-20 school year of 1.9% for administrative and non-negotiated staff, including those recently hired, retiring, or those accessing a retirement benefit. The overall 1.9% or CPI increase, which also includes retirements, reorganization, and FTE reductions, will result in a reduction of overall administrative and non-negotiated compensation compared to the 2018-19 administrative and non-negotiated compensation.

Amended School Calendars for 2019-20 & 2020-21 – 7.04
(Long-term Financial Stability and Fiscal Integrity)
Although the board previously approved school calendars for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years, the newly approved certified teacher contract resulted in a change to the schedule – the conversion of two student attendance days into two staff institute days. The changes, which were approved by the board, are as follows:

2019-20 traditional calendar:  

  • teacher institute day added to Tuesday, November 5, 2019
  • teacher institute day added to Tuesday, January 21, 2020
  • the calendar is based upon 176 student attendance days
  • 184 staff work days with a total of 198 calendar days

2020-21 traditional calendar: 

  • teacher institute day added on Tuesday, January 19, 2021
  • teacher institute day added on Tuesday, March 16, 2021
  • the calendar is based upon 176 student attendance days
  • 184 staff work days with a total of 198 calendar days.

2019-20 balanced calendar:  

  • teacher institute day added to Tuesday, November 5, 2019
  • teacher institute day added to Tuesday, January 21, 2020
  • the calendar is based upon 176 student attendance days
  • 184 staff work days with a total of 198 calendar days.

2020-21 balanced calendar: 

  • teacher institute day added on Tuesday, January 19, 2021
  • teacher institute day added on Tuesday, March 16, 2021
  • the calendar is based upon 176 student attendance days
  • 184 staff work days with a total of 198 calendar days
