The Invention Convention
On November 25, 2013, Mrs. Hahn and her eighth grade students hosted the first annual Invention Convention at Friendship Junior High School.
Students were tasked with creating an invention that would help make life better for others, and they gathered together on the evening of the 25th as a group to present their prototypes to parents and family members.
Mrs. Hahn noted, “To say the Invention Convention was a success would be an understatement. Yes, students were proud of the prototypes they had created, but their success reached far beyond that. They learned that putting time into trial and error is worth the effort. They learned to critically think and solve a problem they cared about. They learned to converse with adults–to shake hands, make eye contact, and speak articulately and knowledgeably. The students’ efforts and performances far surpassed my expectations and I am immensely proud of them.”
Friendship Junior High Principal, Mrs. Paterala, stated, “This project highlighted and emphasized teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking, communication and creativity. Clearly, Mrs. Hahn sparked her students’ investigative spirits in her classroom. During the evening of the Invention Convention, the students presented their inventions with pride, confidence and excellent presentation skills. Congratulations again, to all of our inventors. What a proud evening for Friendship Jr. High School.”
