Quarantine Procedures

Quarantine Procedures

If a student is COVID-19 positive or is a close contact, the student must remain home for at least five days. School staff will check in with the family on day five. If the student is still experiencing symptoms, the student must remain home for a full 10-day period. With resolving symptoms, school staff may allow a return on day six. This must cleared with school staff prior to returning. All COVID-19 cases are strongly encouraged to get tested on day five.

All returns after five days of quarantine or isolation must be approved by school staff based on health statuses. Families also have a choice to continue the full 10-day quarantine or isolation at home.

Students returning from quarantine or a positive case on day six must keep their face covered with a well-fitting mask at all times except when eating or drinking. This includes being fully masked at recess.

In most cases, students are already maintaining six feet of distance at lunch. In instances where that cannot be achieved, schools will accommodate six feet of distance in an alternative lunch setting for anyone returning from a positive case on day six.

Students who have any COVID-19 symptom must remain home for five days and until symptom(s) improve. They must be fever free without the use of medication, without vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours. They may also return if they have a negative PCR test that is approved by school staff.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
For questions about your child’s case, please contact your school’s health office.
