What are Hearing services?
Services for students with hearing loss are designed to support the students’ ability to use hearing and communication skills to be successful learners. Services available include specialized instruction by a teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing, assessment of students’ skills (including audiologic evaluations), support for use of hearing assistive technology (assistive listening devices), consultation and collaboration with educational teams about strategies and accommodations that support students with hearing loss.
Who would benefit from Hearing Services?
Any child who has been diagnosed with a permanent or fluctuating hearing loss should undergo assessment to determine if they need hearing services. Students who demonstrate a delay in their listening, communication, language and academic skills that can be related to their hearing loss may require support from a teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing. Students whose hearing loss impacts their ability to access auditory information in the classroom may require accommodations and/or hearing assistive technology to support them.
What is the process for considering Hearing services?
Educational teams will discuss students’ current academic, functional, auditory and communication skills in order to identify whether the student needs additional support from individuals who specialize in the education of students with hearing loss.
¿QUE SON LOS SERVICIOS AUDITIVOS?
Los servicios para estudiantes con pérdida de audición están diseñados para apoyar la capacidad de los estudiantes para usar las habilidades auditivas y de comunicación para que sean aprendices exitosos. Los servicios disponibles incluyen instrucción especializada por un profesor de personas sordas/difícil de oír, evaluación de habilidades de los estudiantes (incluyendo evaluaciones audiológicas), apoyo para el uso de tecnología de asistencia auditiva (dispositivos de ayuda auditiva), consulta y colaboración con equipos educativos sobre estrategias y alojamiento que apoyan a los estudiantes con pérdida auditiva.
¿QUIÉN SE BENEFICIARÍA DE LOS SERVICIOS DE AUDIENCIA?
Cualquier niño(a) que haya sido diagnosticado con una pérdida auditiva permanente o fluctuante debe someterse a una evaluación para determinar si necesita servicios de audición. Los estudiantes que demuestren una demora en sus habilidades auditivas, de comunicación, de lenguaje y académicas que puedan estar relacionadas con su pérdida auditiva pueden requerir el apoyo de un maestro de personas sordas o con problemas de audición. Los estudiantes cuya pérdida auditiva afecta su capacidad para acceder a la información auditiva en el salón pueden requerir adaptaciones y/o tecnología de asistencia auditiva para apoyarlos.
¿CUÁL ES EL PROCESO PARA CONSIDERAR LOS SERVICIOS AUDITIVOS?
Los equipos educativos analizarán las habilidades académicas, funcionales, auditivas y de comunicación actuales de los estudiantes para identificar si el alumno necesita apoyo adicional de personas que se especializan en la educación de estudiantes con pérdida auditiva.
