Information, Systems & Services

The mission of the Information Systems and Services Department is to facilitate and support the deployment of district hardware, software, network technology and to provide services, training and support for the technology and information processing infrastructures within the School District 59 educational community.

Technology is ubiquitous and requires daily care and maintenance. The ISS Department is charged with the task to keep the boxes, wires and software working in harmony with all staff among fourteen schools and the Administration Center. At times both challenging and exciting, technology support is a continual learning experience.

Department Structure
Department staff are roughly divided into those responsible for the maintenance of mission critical hardware and software and those who support the maintenance and use of information that is managed by the administrative technology systems. Although staff tends to be specialized, all are involved in staff development efforts to assist others in the use of hardware and software systems. Given the integrated nature of hardware and software, staff members work on various sides of technology support.

Technology Management
Seven staff members support this area: ISS Director, four technical support specialists, webmaster and repair technician.

Staff members are involved with the adoption of new technologies and maintenance, training and end -user support for all existing technology hardware, software, network and telecommunication systems. Their responsibilities include but are not limited to support of Internet Web pages and their development, electronic mail, desktop and laptop computer systems, media management systems, building servers, the wide-area network, building local area networks, point-of-sale lunch/food systems, telecommunications infrastructure, student information systems and computer maintenance. These staff members also provide processing student information system, em-mail, desktop publishing and general computer technology.

Information Management
Two staff members are dedicated to this area: an information management specialist and secretary. These staff members assist in administrative data processing and student information system management. Major areas of responsibility include student information system maintenance, online survey development, report cards, registrations and student demographic maintenance.
