Every Voice Matters: A Powerful Initiative at Juliette Low
Voices come in many forms and every one deserves to be heard. Each Wednesday throughout the district, students engage in SEL lessons that include important topics such as forms of communication, neurodivergence, autism, and so much more.
Every April, Juliette Low celebrates Disability Awareness Month by building empathy, understanding, and appreciation for the diverse abilities within our community. This year, the school started something truly special to honor the month: Talker Wednesday and Thursday. It’s a time dedicated for students who use AAC devices (Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices) to communicate with peers by leading the morning announcements. Every Wednesday and Thursday throughout the month, students went over the intercom to share their voices with the entire school, talking about topics such as weekend plans, favorite activities, and what they like to do for fun.
It was a powerful, heartwarming moment and a beautiful reflection of the inclusive environment we’re proud to foster every day.
