7th and 8th-grade Foods classes will continue to provide students the skills needed to be responsible and productive family and community members.  The courses covers many topics that are vital to successful day-to-day living.

Foods and Nutrition:  We will continue building on prior health and nutrition lessons, focusing on meal planning and evaluation of personal eating habits.  Students will build on their previous cooking skills with more challenging cooking labs, which includes a Top Chef cooking competition with guest judges and trophies.  We will also review previously learned concepts such as sanitation, kitchen safety, equipment, utensils, and cooking terminology.

Ethnic Foods:

This course is designed for students who are interested in food and travel. We will plan and prepare dishes from around the world! You will learn how food choices are tied to the land and influenced by religion, culture, geography, climate, lifestyle, history, economics, and personal taste. You will expand your knowledge of such customs as you travel to countries such as England, France, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Greece, Russia, Japan, South America, Africa or the Middle East.  This class is student-driven.  Students decide what countries to explore and what recipes utilize while demonstrating mastery of cooking techniques, utensil use, and ethnic influences for each dish chosen. material.  Students will also create their own travel cooking show as their final project to be filmed and presented to guest judges with food samples. Winners and trophies will be awarded.
